OUR USEFUL TIPS FOR THE RIGHT DENTAL CARE
The aim of modern dental medicine is to retain your teeth into old age. Thereby prophylaxis plays an important role. Good oral hygiene and healthy nutrition are an important prerequisite for combating illnesses such as caries and periodontitis (gingivitis). But this will not be possible without your help. The following points should therefore be observed.
Dental care and oral hygiene
- Clean your teeth at least twice a day for three minutes.
- In addition, you should remove plaque from the interdental spaces with dental floss or an interdental brush once a day.
- Use toothpaste containing fluoride. The regular use of fluoride makes your teeth harder and stronger.
- Ensure that you have a healthy, balanced diet low in sugar.
- Try not to eat between meals.
Use fluoridated iodized salt (for cooking and baking).
Visits to your dentist
- You should visit your dentist at least once a year, every six months would be even better.
- Regular professional tooth cleaning improves oral health.

Dental floss and interdental brush for clean interdental spaces
For prophylaxis it is best to use dental floss to clean crowded teeth. So-called interdental brushes are suitable for cleaning larger interdental spaces and critical points such as cavities. Ensure that your interdental brush is the right size.

USE THE RIGHT TOOTHBRUSH
- The toothbrush should fit comfortably into your hand and have three to four rows of bristles
- Use a medium-hard toothbrush with rounded bristles made of synthetic material. This prevents gum injuries.
- Use bristles made of synthetic material because bacteria accumulates in bristles made of natural materials.
- A toothbrush must be discarded and replaced every three months.
Powered toothbrushes clean better than hand toothbrushes. They are especially suitable for children because they shorten and simplify the cleaning process.
GENERAL PROPHYLAXIS TIPS
After everyday use, ensure that you rinse your toothbrush thoroughly and then position it so that it can dry off without any obstruction. After a bout of flu the toothbrush should be replaced as viruses can permeate the organism again via the bristles and cause re-infection.
TECHNIQUE FOR BRUSHING TEETH
Never scrub in a horizontal direction. This causes the gingiva to recede and the tooth necks to be exposed. The most effective method is the Bass brushing technique. Position the toothbrush along the gum line, at an angle of 45 degrees and brush with very small, vibrating movements towards the dental crown. Then wipe the tooth from red to white. Each individual tooth should be brushed. Do not forget the occlusal surface and the interior space.
